What is minicrew? Local mountain bikers in Jefferson County, Colorado created a volunteer program to assist in the maintenance on Open Space Trails. The Mini Crew Program is designed as an after-work-couple-of-hours volunteer opportunity. Meeting on the 3rd Thursday of the month May through September, mountain bikers join efforts to proactively improve trail conditions and spread goodwill to all trail users.
Our history The Mini-Crew Program started as a great idea, now four years later is a working program. Nine mountain bikers partnered to begin the initiative with crew leader and field training with the JCOS staff. The Mini-Crew Program provides an alternative to the all-day trail work days. Volunteers can join for a couple of hours after work. The majority of our work has been on Apex, Chimney Gulch, White Ranch and Bergen Park with crews ranging from 10-20 people. At the end of the year, the hours spent on the trail are accounted for and a GIANT check is presented to the OSAC board of directors on behalf of all the moutain bikers. It sends a clear message that the mountain community has a deep commitment to maintaining and improving our trail system. The only component missing is YOU! Come join the efforts to give something back to the trails and spread goodwill to all trail users.
Moving Dirt Our crews perform maintenance duties that includes cleaning drains, aligning grade and water mitigation. We armor, de-berm, scoop, clear corridor, rebuild, tamp and greet trail users. Most trail days include a bike ride. Our crews are outfitted with the proper trail maintenance tools. Every event is attended by a collection of talented and well-trained crew leaders. Minicrew! - Thursday, September 19th, 5:30pm - Matthews Winters

Hello Everyone -

It's time again for MiniCrew.  Our final MiniCrew of this season will be at Matthews Winters park, on Thursday, September 19th, at 5:30 pm.

With the recent rain and flooding, we will be going to go to Matthews Winters park to perform any light maintenance which would be helpful.  As we did the last time we worked at Matthews Winters last year, we may be assembling a little past the main parking lot, parking next to the gravel horse trailer turn-around lot.

Registration is encouraged.  Either send us a message on our sign up form, or you may also use the Meetup event.

You will need to dress as you would for a two hour hike, prepared with work gloves, water, and a jacket or rain slick just in case.

The mini-crew program was started by mountain bikers and is designed as an “after-work-couple-of-hours” trail session.  Our events fall on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from May until September.

We focus on specific tasks assigned by Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS) that support the trail maintenance activities for the JCOS work crews and staff.  Our events provide all trail users an opportunity to actively participate in the support and maintenance of the trail systems, as well as a chance to spread good will to all trail users we encounter.

Minicrew happens every third Thursday during the season.  This year, this makes the schedule:

May 16th,

June 20th,

July 18th,

August 15th,

September 19th

Minicrew! - Thursday, August 15th, 2013, 5:30pm - North Table Mtn (EAST)

Hello everybody!

It’s time again for Mini Crew!  Our next Minicrew of the season will be happening on Thursday, August 15th, 5:30 pm.

The Plan: Have fun!

We will be returning to the area on North Table Mountain that we attended to in July, continuing to address some of the damage on North Table Loop that has resulted from some recent rains.

Location: We will be working on the North Table Loop Trail, returning to the same area that we did in July.

We will meet at the Fairmount / Lithic Trailhead on Easley Road.  This is where people commonly park, but there isn't a lot of room.

There is more parking at Tony Grampsas, at the end of Salvia St.  Then a short walk to the trailhead on Easley.

The tools will be staged just inside the park, so we won't have to carry them the entire distance.

(For people who might not have been there before, these arrangements might sound confusing. Just refer to the map linked just above.)

Registration is encouraged.  Either send us a message on our sign up form, or you may also use the Meetup event.
